Reston is a cool little big, and getting bigger, town in northern Virginia, just minutes outside of Washington, DC. I had the pleasure of growing up in the next town over and even had the pleasure of living there for several years as an adult. While Reston has many different hot spots, vibes, and cultural flavors, most would agree that the crown jewel is the Reston Town Center. When my family moved to Virginia in 1992, the Reston Town Center was little more than a movie theater, an ice rink, and a couple small stores on one little street. Fast-forward almost 30 years and it has now blossomed into a vibrant hub of activity with several new buildings consisting of more shops, restaurants, office space, and residential space. For those interested in a unique place to take street and architecture photos, Reston Town Center offers many unique vantage points.
Photo Hints:
- IMPORTANT: Reston Town Center is private property. If you’re a casual point-and-shoot photographer, you shouldn’t have any problems. Once you setup a tripod, however, there’s a chance you’ll be harassed by one of the roving security guards. So, you either need to be really quick about your business, or simply contact the Reston Town Center marketing team, and they’ll hook you up with a photo release. Make sure you have the release on your person when shooting in the event you encounter any security guards.
- Shoot during sunrise or sunset for a dramatic sky backdrop
- Venture to the tops of the many parking garages for some unique vantage points
- Shoot at night on a tripod to get neat long exposures of cars driving through the street
